Pilbeam at PMW
Pilbeam Racing Designs teamed up with ChassisSim technologies at this year’s Professional World Expo 2008 in Cologne. Pilbeam could be found promoting both their current projects and the simulation software.
Danny Nowlan of ChassisSim with Mike Pilbeam.
Mike Pilbeam and Danny Nowlan have a long established partnership. Impressed by Danny’s work as a vehicle dynamacist at Pilbeam, Mike was pleased to become a UK distributor for the software as soon as it became commercially available. Over the past three years this has resulted in sales to GP2, F3 and club racing teams.
"We wanted to improve the awareness of ChassisSim and to show how powerful the software is" said Mike Pilbeam after the show. "Not only do we sell the software, but we are also active users, allowing us to provide consultation services for our customers."
ChassisSim is transient lap time simulation software, making it one of the most accurate simulation packages available. Smooth programming language enables the simulations at be run within 30 seconds, which can then be compared to real data in programs such as Pi, Motec and Bosch.
ChassisSim was used extensively on Pilbeam’s MP93 though the Le Mans Series. This was particularly helpful at Le Mans when used to find a problem with the dampers. A solution was then simulated and the change implemented on the car.
Pilbeam also used ChassisSim to aid the design of the new VdeV Virage. The VdeV dampers were solely specified from the programs’ calculations which have worked though the season to great effect. Simulations run before the car has even left the workshop generated accurate lap times and car traits.
PMW was also used to promote Pilbeams new VdeV sportscar to European markets, while the involvement in hillclimb cars was still evident. Pilbeam also highlighted their involvement with recent involvements with Lotus, as several engineers visited the stand.
Further details of ChassisSim can be found at www.ChassisSim.com. Pilbeam Racing Designs are happy to discuss how ChassisSim can be useful to your race team. More information on Pilbeam’s Lotus conversion kits are available by contacting us direct.
